Travel Vaccinations and Advice

When you are planning to go overseas, it can be difficult to know what health precautions to take. What illnesses or diseases might be a risk to you? What vaccinations do you need?

At Bellbowrie Family Practice, we are able to provide answers to a comprehensive range of travel questions. We are also able to provide many of the immunisations you might need. We recommend making an appointment four to six weeks before you are due to leave. Some vaccinations require more than one dose so it’s important to start with plenty of time to spare.

Vaccinations

When you visit us at Bellbowrie Family Practice for a travel vaccination, your doctor will take into account your age, health, past vaccination history, and destination to determine which vaccinations you need.

We are able to provide vaccinations against a number of illnesses that you might come into contact with as you travel. These include:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid Fever
  • Diphtheria
  • Meningitis
  • Cholera
  • Polio

We are also able to update your vaccinations against the following diseases:

  • Rubella
  • Whooping Cough
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Influenza – various strains

Some vaccinations are specific to particular destinations, such as yellow fever, meningitis, rabies and Japanese encephalitis. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for entry to some countries, including parts of Africa, South and Central America and the Caribbean. Your doctor can advise which vaccinations you need based on your destination and length of travel time.
